COMMANDANT

Captain Nikolaos Karnavas was born in Athens and graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy, where he studied from 1991 to 1995. He has served on various Hellenic Navy warships and in Fleet Headquarters Commands. From 2010 to 2011, he served as Commanding Officer of HS Kalypso. He has also served in Directorates of the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS) Operations Branch, as well as at the Hellenic Joint Intelligence School (HJIS). Captain Nikolaos Karnavas has attended numerous training programs and courses abroad (in Belgium, the United States, and the United Kingdom) and is a graduate of the Hellenic Naval War College (2006), the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College (2015–2016), and the Hellenic National Defence College (2023–2024). He holds Master’s degrees in Project Management from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in Applied Strategy and International Security from the University of Plymouth. As of February 2025, he has assumed duties as Commandant of the Joint European Union Intelligence School (JEIS).
